7 Ways To Restore Mental Clarity
There are times when it seems like words, ideas, things, past, present, future, job, family, and emotions are all at the same time in your head. Times when you just want everything to stop and have a little moment of quiet so you can recalibrate yourself and put everything into order.
Maybe you are in a stressful situation where you need to choose from different options and you don’t know which one to pick. Or, you just think you are stuck in a meaningless life.
Whatever the reason, don’t stress yourself, we all had this kind of moments. You are not alone. Fortunately, even though sometimes it doesn’t look like it, you have many ways to help yourself out. When you are in any of these positions, it may seem like you need something big to get you out of there. When, in fact, the actions that have the power to help you are the small and subtle ones.
Let’s see what resonates with you.
ACCEPT WHERE YOU ARE
First, accept where you are. Don’t think about how it should be and that you want this situation to be more clear because right now, is not. It makes no point in placing yourself in the future or in the past. This will only distract you from the present moment. Instead, bring yourself at this time, accept it and move forward.
You have the power to change your current situation and restore your mental clarity. But only after you take the necessary time to accept what is happening and what you are experiencing. After this, be brave, set your intention and make a move. You truly deserve the best, don’t limit yourself.
How to
Take 5 minutes for yourself and gaze through the window, or at a tree, water or anything that brings you peace. Breathe in as deep as you can and relax your shoulders. Speak gently to yourself in your mind, as if you were speaking with your sister or your best friend. Tell yourself this: right now I don’t know what to do, where to start or how to act. Moments like this are ordinary, and they are a part of life. I didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just a moment that forces me to act differently than I did in the past. I have fate that this moment will also pass and soon I will understand the lesson that was hidden from me. I am curious to see how can I bring clarity to this situation.
DO A “BRAIN DUMP”
A brain dump is an act of comprehensively and uncritically expressing and recording one’s thoughts and ideas. In other words, is writing on a piece of paper, everything that comes into your mind. Good or bad, stupid or wise, nonsenses, all that is intoxicating your mind and making you feel overwhelmed and powerless. String everything on that paper, fill every white space.
Watch out because sometimes, you can experience the discovery of small gold that you couldn’t see because of the clutter in your mind. This tiny gold can be ideas or words that resonate with you at a deeper level, and that spark a light inside of you.
How to
Take a piece of paper and a pen and start writing for about 10 minutes everything that comes into your mind in the way it’s coming. Make sure to have also a marker near you to highlight, as you write, the words that resonate. You will see the difference clearly when a word like this will come. If you don’t discover any words, don’t worry, it’s normal too. Just keep on practising.
After you’re done, read only the words you highlighted, translate them on clean paper and burn the other ones. By doing these, you will free your mind, and you will restore a calm vibe inside of you. A fire has tremendous purifying power. It is something magical about it.
MOVE YOUR BODY AND OXYGENATE YOUR BRAIN
If you are already exercising, very good, then do it more consciously. Pay more attention to your moves, to how they feel, how fast or slow you move, and what kind of emotions you experience.
If you are not doing any exercises, you can start by stretching your body. It doesn’t need too much effort, but it’s enough to wake up your body and to energise your mind. Stretch your arms, legs and shoulders with basic moves that you enjoy doing.
Brain fog and fatigue are common symptoms of thyroid disorders and hormone imbalances.
How to
One exercise I recommend for this is spinal flexion. In yoga, the name of the move is Marjariasana or cat-cow. This pose increases the circulation of the spinal fluid, which will lead to stimulation of all 26 vertebrae of the spinal. The body will be quickly revitalised.
EAT CONSCIOUSLY
Pause for a while inflammatory brain foods like gluten, dairy, and processed foods. Give your body a little time to do a cleansing and to rebalance. Don’t starve yourself but also don’t eat until you feel full because in a few minutes you will feel double full.
We often eat more than we need, and this leads to extra activity for our body. When we overeat, a large part of our energy goes on digestion, which leads to limited resources directed to other parts of the body, like our brains, for example.
Eat meals that are rich in fibre, fruits and vegetables. If you are eating meat, take a break for a few days and see how you feel. Food is energy. What you feed your body with automatically becomes your energy.
Still, you are the only one who knows what is best for you. Pay attention to your body because it speaks to you, and then just act. Mental clarity is also a consequence of healthy eating habits.
How to
Talk with yourself. Don’t look at what others say is good or bad. Be super honest with yourself and look at how you eat, what you eat and how you feel. Experience different tastes, cut some foods, try new ones. Think in terms of energy, is this food alive and full of love? If I set aside the appetite after I finish eating this, I will feel just as good, or I will feel heavy and sleepy? Think, feel and act accordingly.
MEDITATE FOR MENTAL CLARITY
Yes, meditate. I know you maybe read this a thousand times before and probably, the reason you are reading it again is that you need to re-read it to reinforce it. Make your meditation, and practice every day, and you will bring more clarity in your thoughts than ever before. You need to work for your mental clarity, and meditation is one of the most powerful tools.
How to
Set your intention to meditate every day, it can be even for 3 minutes. You only need to put yourself in the position and let things happen. At one point in this process, you will discover the way your mind works. How does it speak to you and what are the tools she’s using. At one point you can start even playing with it, and at that point, things will become fun.
USE ROSEMARY ESSENTIAL OIL
Despite being an incredible ingredient in our foods, rosemary has many other benefits to consider. In ancient Greece and Rome, rosemary was used as incense to strengthen memory. Recent research indicates that inhaling rosemary oil helps you prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine a brain chemical important for thinking, concentration and memory.
The fresh and oxide-rich smell can ground you and bring you instantly to the present moment. Studies had shown that rosemary oil could also improve speed and accuracy on cognitive tasks, thus establishing mental clarity.
How to
Pour five-seven drops of rosemary oil into a diffuser and let the smell surround you. You can also use a candle oil infuser. Before lighting the candle, make an intention and after add 3-5 drops of oil.
TAPPING
Is a combination of Ancient Chinese Acupressure and Modern Psychology that works to physically alter your brain, energy system, and body all at once. The practise consists of tapping with your fingertips on specific meridian points while talking through traumatic memories and a wide range of emotions. How tapping works.
I started these exercises two years ago, and what I can say is that they work. Each time I’m doing the tapping, I have a feeling of peace and revitalisation. It feels like everything comes to balance and mental clarity restores in seconds.
How to
Take 5 minutes to be alone. Sit comfortably and do the exercises. I also created my mantras for these exercises. Sometimes I say” I love and respect myself” on each tapping point.
Remember, no one will come to save you. No one can do anything for you unless you do it for yourself. Don’t expect things to happen, people to show up or life to be gentle. All these things will occur only after you will take the first steps. Only then, mental clearance will be more present in your life, magical things will happen, and life will swaddle you in her embrace.
Mental clarity is a process like any other process which needs your attention, acceptance and overcoming.
Also, do your best to be consistent. It took you many weeks, months or even years to construct the current situation. Thus it is fair enough to invest as much time as possible in your new self. You deserve this, and no one else can do it for you.
Remember to love yourself,
